One of the SEC schools that I have enjoyed watching in the past, especially in basketball, would be the Kentucky Wildcats, and now fans of the team are able to enjoy the Kentucky Wildcats Pillow Pet. When I make my list of the greatest football games I’ve ever seen, number one or two on the list is always going to be the 2007 Fiesta Bowl featuring Oklahoma and Boise State. I have always considered Purdue one of the underrated colleges in the Midwest, so it was nice to see the Purdue Boilermakers Pillow Pet included in the first round of sports themed pillow pets. Purdue University is a land-grant college located in West Lafayette, Indiana and was formed in 1869. It is the second biggest school in the state of Indiana and is home to nearly 40,000 students. Athletic success in different sports and famous student-athletes such as Drew Brees helped increase the school’s popularity in the Midwest. Between the academic success, number of graduates and following in the Midwest, the Boilermakers Pillow Pet should become a popular stuffed animal.

What Inspired the Purdue Boilermakers My Pillow Pet Look?

I would have to think that designing the Boilermakers Pillow Pets would be one of the toughest tasks this stuffed animal company had to deal with. I must admit, I was not exactly sure what a boilermaker was or is, but according to the University’s athletic site, they got the Boilermakers nickname in 1891 after a newspaper called them that after a 44-0 win. The name seemed to be an insult from the team that lost, but since Purdue had a great locomotive engineering department and was a land-grant university educating students from middle class families, the name seemed appropriate and ended up sticking. Since basing a stuffed animal on the mascot or nickname of Purdue is difficult, the Purdue University Pillow Pet has the school’s logos, colors and personality incorporated into it.
